Driving north from Auckland on either State Highway one, or State Highway 16 to Wellsford (Wellsford has a 24hr Cafe) and on through TeHana.
About 2km after Te Hana turn right onto Mangawhai Road.
*After about a 20 min drive you will arrive at a 'T' intersection with a petrol station opposite, this is Mangawhai Village. Turn right, then left onto Molesworth Drive (Smashed Pippi is on your left).
Continue along, across the estuary bridge and up into the Mangawhai Heads area (past Naja's on your right).
The road veers to the left and you will pass the Information centre and the golf course on your left, then Wood st (to the shopping centre) on your right.
The next road on your right is North Avenue, turn right into North Ave and continue along down to the water front, turning left into Alamar Crescent.
The boat ramp is on your right at the far end of Alamar Cres.

Alternative directions to Mangawhai (and RnR) from Auckland avoiding Wellsford and TeHana townships. This route is fully sealed & shorter, but has a few more twists and turns to watch out for. |

Drive up from Auckland on State Highway one, through Warkworth and the Dome Valley.
At the end of the Dome Valley is the Hoteo Bridge and just beyond that (say 1/2 km) is the Wayby Valley road intersection. Turn right off State highway one into Wayby Valley road. Drive for a few kms until you reach an intersection, turn right, then take the first left (Waiteitei Road). Drive the full length of Waiteitei Road to the stop sign, then turn right into Mangawhai Road. Continue driving about 15 min to arrive at Mangawhai Village, then follow instructions above*. |

Driving south from Whangarei turn off State-highway One at Waipu.
Follow the 'Twin Coast Discovery Route' south to Mangawhai Heads.
You will come to a roundabout at the Heads turn right into Molesworth Drive.
Turn left into North Avenue (third on your left) and continue along down to the water front, turning left into Alamar Crescent.
The boat ramp is on your right at the far end of Alamar Cres.
