Hapuka time
Recent trips out
to the Puka reef have been productive during May, with some
nice Hapuka caught on RnR.
Frank Seig a Mangawhai local
out on RnR caught this nice 45.5 kg Puka after almost losing it when
it swam around the anchor warp and became wrapped and wasn't boated
until the anchor was pulled up.
There have been plenty of nice
eating snapper about at the moment too, although a lot of people
arriving back at the boat ramp, say they are not finding them.
We have seen some
nice schools of Trevally and
Kahawai and large free ranging Kahawai, providing good fishing for
clients.
A few weeks ago
this Gurnard was caught (see photo), it looks like a Spotted Gurnard, which is
fairly uncommon to see.
Another unusual
fish caught was a striped grouper, it may have been the
Spotted-black
grouper
Epinephelus daeemeas
Wayne described it as having stripes. Another possibility is the
Toadstool Grouper, although the Toadstool Grouper is usually
spotted. (no photos)
May is Olive Picking Time
Despite the rain
and the frost,
we have been able to pick most of our olives, still more trees to
pick, but so far a nice harvest and lovely oil.
We are taking
orders for our olive oil, 1 litre bottles $40.00 each. If you would
like to try before you buy, ask Wayne for a tasting while you are
aboard RnR, or ring us to arrange a tasting at our olive grove. |
